After two decades during which confused guests generally found their way only to the grand backyard doors, this playroom and garage addition reorients the iconic 1960′s home with a new primary entry sequence. A broad horizontal roof plane pulls the landscape into the arrival, and creates and emphatic gesture; welcoming, sheltering, and deferential to the main house form.
The playroom’s materials and their roles are extracted from the main house, and re-assembled in a looser composition of new relationships reaching out from the rectangular house plan to shape outdoor spaces on both the public and private sides of the home.
