Allen (Chip) Dewing, Jr. AIA

Principal

Chip, along with his partner Mark Schmid, founded Dewing & Schmid Architects in 1984 after working together in Boston architectural firms for many years. Chip’s early work focused heavily on the renovation of historic structures. His more recent design work has remained respectful of past architectural styles while integrating the requirements of present-day lifestyles. In all cases, Chip strives to respond to the broader context of the site and its architectural heritage.

Chip earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1970 and a master’s degree in Architecture from Harvard University in 1973. Over the years, he has played an active role in various town committees and has received a number of design awards. Chip is currently working with his clients and with other members of the firm to use new products and technologies to reduce new structures’ impact on the environment.
