Located 4 miles off shore in the East Penobscot Bay region of the Maine coast, this island house has been a summer retreat for several generations of the same family.
Initially, the goal was to renovate the “new” wing, originally constructed in 1912. The project began with a winterized kitchen and bedroom wing, but expanded to include upgrading and renovating other parts of the house and garage. The living room contains a unique plastered “mussel” frieze. A new garden with a circular boardwalk provides a sunny, sheltered outdoor room beyond the kitchen doors.
